Modern Living Room Design and Layout

If you are going to buy modern furniture, you may as well make sure you design the place appropriately so it all looks right! Here are a few simple tips that will help you make sure all your expensive modern furniture isn’t being wasted due to silly design flaws:

Tip #1) Make a Floor Plan – Before you go and buy all your modern furniture, be sure to create a floor plan to see how much space you need, and at least get an idea of how big you want the items to be. If you have the measurements of your different rooms, you’ll be able to have a rough idea of how much space you have for each item. Also remember that modern design is all about minimalism, so be sure to leave lots of space in between all the major pieces of furniture.

Tip #2) Frame Focal Points – Every room has a few focal points and you can use your living room design to accentuate those even more. An obvious one is the entertainment center, but your sofas and chairs will automatically frame that one. A good way to frame the dining room is to place a big modern chandelier or copper pendant lights directly above the table. If you have a painting or piece of art you want to make into a focal point of the room, make sure the lighting draws the eye to that area and there is open space around it to make it visible. Another option is the paint that wall a slightly different color to draw the eye.

Tip #3) Make the Room as Symmetrical and Balanced as Possible – If there is one important attribute as important as minimalism, it is symmetry and balance. It is simple to do, just make sure all the items are centered and try and do two of each item that you can. Like with minimalism, this will help keep the mind at ease when you are in the room.
